The Finnish resistance was far outnumbered by the Soviet invaders, and yet the sons of Karelia fought bravely and relentlessly. To everybody's surprise, Finland was defeating Russia. However, only partially and temporarily, for the Soviet colossus was and had always been virtually indomitable.

So unfair was this agreement, that it really seemed that Finland lost more territory in peace than in war. The Winter War is often seen as a minor battle, a footnote in world history, but the keen mind should know better: it was this war that led Hitler to underestimate the Russian power, and that, in the end, would cost him dear.
