Mephistopheles: "Inderdaad, dat zijn ze."Mephistopheles: "indeed they are."
Faust: "En wat dan met verlangen, affectie, pijn of verdriet? Ik kan deze niet beschrijven, maar ik weet dat ze in mijn borst zijn. Wat zijn ze?"Faust: "then what of longing. Wffection, pain or grief? I can't describe these, yet I know they are in my breast. what are they?""
Mephistopheles: "Zonder substantie, zoals mist is."Mephistopheles: "without substance, as mist is."
Faust: "In dat geval is de mens ook alleen maar lucht!"Faust: "in that case man is only air as well!
