The cosmic particle that sails in my bloodLa partícula cósmica que navega en mi sangre
Is an infinite world of sidereal forces.Es un mundo infinito de fuerzas siderales.
It came to me after a long journey of millenniaVino a mí tras un largo camino de milenios
When, perhaps, I was sand for the feet of the air.Cuando, tal vez, fui arena para los pies del aire.

Then I was the wood. Desperate root.Luego fui la madera. raíz desesperada.
Sunken in the silence of a waterless desert.Hundida en el silencio de un desierto sin agua.
Then I was a snail, who knows where.Después fui caracol quién sabe dónde.
And the seas gave me their first word.Y los mares me dieron su primera palabra.

Then the human form unfolded over the worldDespués la forma humana desplegó sobre el mundo
The universal flag of muscle and tear.La universal bandera del músculo y la lágrima.
And blasphemy grew on the old earth.Y creció la blasfemia sobre la vieja tierra.
And saffron, and linden, the song and the prayer.Y el azafrán, y el tilo, la copla y la plegaria.

Then I came to America to be born as a man.Entonces vine a américa para nacer en hombre.
And in me I gathered the pampas, the jungle, and the mountains.Y en mí junté la pampa, la selva y la montaña.
If a plainsman grandfather galloped to my cradle,Si un abuelo llanero galopó hasta mi cuna,
Another told me stories on his cane flute.Otro me dijo historias en su flauta de caña.

I do not study things nor pretend to understand them.Yo no estudio las cosas ni pretendo entenderlas.
I recognize them, it's true, because I lived in them before.Las reconozco, es cierto, pues antes viví en ellas.
I converse with the leaves in the middle of the mountainsConverso con las hojas en medio de los montes
And the secret roots give me their messages.Y me dan sus mensajes las raíces secretas.

And so I go through the world, without age or destiny.Y así voy por el mundo, sin edad ni destino.
Under the protection of a cosmos that walks with me.Al amparo de un cosmos que camina conmigo.
I love the light, and the river, and the silence, and the star.Amo la luz, y el río, y el silencio, y la estrella.
And I flourish in guitars because I was the wood.Y florezco en guitarras porque fui la madera.
