It's sad to think that we're not gonna make it
And it's gotten to the point that we just can't fake it
But for some ungodly reason we just won't let it die
I guess neither one of us wants to be the first to say goodbye

And I guess you must be wondering that same thing too
So we go on together just living a lie
Because neighter one of us wants to be the first to say goodbye

Every time I find the nerve to say that I'm leaving
Old memories seem to get in my way
Lord knows it's only me that I'm deceiving
Cause when it comes to saying goodbye
That's a simple word I never could say

There can be a way this can have a happy ending
But we can't go on hurting and pretending
