Roadkill

Be sure to cover my eyes when we round that corner
where we stood just inside the lines one long goodbye ago.
one backward glance. bloody roadkill calling.
I can't resist. I never could.

And now just look around.

Drove around with you all night
Angry hamsters spinning in our cages.
Still angriest the backseat driver, softly:
"Can't you drive a little faster?"
Then daring us to come what may
