Santiago, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, envía palabras de amor a las doce tribus de los judíos que viven en todas partes de la tierra.James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, sends words of love to the twelve tribes of the Jews living in all parts of the earth.
Que sea todo gozo para ustedes, hermanos míos, cuando pasen por pruebas de todo tipo;2 Let it be all joy to you, my brothers, when you undergo tests of every sort;
Porque saben que la prueba de su fe les da la fortaleza para seguir con esperanza;3 Because you have the knowledge that the testing of your faith gives you the power of going on in hope;
Pero dejen que esta fortaleza tenga su efecto completo, para que sean completos y no les falte nada.4 But let this power have its full effect, so that you may be made complete, needing nothing.
Pero si alguno de ustedes carece de sabiduría, pida a Dios, que da generosamente a todos sin reproche, y se le dará.5 But if any man among you is without wisdom, let him make his request to God, who gives freely to all without an unkind word, and it will be given to him.
Pida con fe, sin dudar; porque el que duda es como las olas del mar, agitadas por el viento.6 Let him make his request in faith, doubting nothing; for he who has doubt in his heart is like the waves of the sea, which are troubled by the driving of the wind.
Que no piense ese hombre que recibirá algo del Señor;7 Let it not seem to such a man that he will get anything from the Lord;
Porque es inconstante en todo lo que hace, y es inseguro en todos sus caminos.8 For there is a division in his mind, and he is uncertain in all his ways.
Pero que el hermano de humilde condición se alegre de ser enaltecido;9 But let the brother of low position be glad that he is lifted up;
Pero el hombre rico, de ser humillado; porque como la flor del campo, él también pasará.10 But the man of wealth, that he is made low; because like the flower of the grass he will come to his end.
Porque cuando sale el sol con su calor abrasador, la hierba se seca y la gracia de su forma desaparece con la caída de la flor; así también el hombre rico llega a la nada en sus caminos.11 For when the sun comes up with its burning heat, the grass gets dry and the grace of its form is gone with the falling flower; so the man of wealth comes to nothing in his ways.
Hay una bendición para el hombre que pasa por pruebas; porque si tiene la aprobación de Dios, se le dará la corona de la vida, que el Señor ha prometido dar a los que lo aman.12 There is a blessing on the man who undergoes testing; because, if he has God's approval, he will be given the crown of life, which the Lord has said he will give to those who have love for him.
Que nadie diga cuando es probado, 'Soy probado por Dios'; porque Dios no puede ser tentado por el mal, y él mismo no pone a nadie a prueba de esa manera;13 Let no man say when he is tested, I am tested by God; for it is not possible for God to be tested by evil, and he himself puts no man to such a test:
Pero cada uno es probado cuando es arrastrado por el deseo que lo aparta del buen camino.14 But every man is tested when he is turned out of the right way by the attraction of his desire.
Entonces, cuando llega su momento, el deseo da a luz al pecado; y el pecado, cuando está plenamente desarrollado, da a luz a la muerte.15 Then when its time comes, desire gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is of full growth, gives birth to death.
Hermanos queridos, no se desvíen del buen camino.16 Do not be turned from the right way, dear brothers.
Toda buena y verdadera cosa nos es dada desde el cielo, procedente del Padre de las luces, con quien no hay cambio ni sombra de variación.17 Every good and true thing is given to us from heaven, coming from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change or any shade made by turning.
Por su voluntad nos dio vida, por su palabra verdadera, para que seamos, en cierto sentido, los primeros frutos de todas las cosas que él ha hecho.18 Of his purpose he gave us being, by his true word, so that we might be, in a sense, the first-fruits of all the things which he had made.
Ustedes conocen esto, hermanos queridos. Pero que cada uno sea pronto para escuchar, lento para hablar, lento para enojarse;19 You have knowledge of this, dear brothers. But let every man be quick in hearing, slow in words, slow to get angry;
Porque la justicia de Dios no se logra por la ira del hombre.20 For the righteousness of God does not come about by the wrath of man.
Por eso, desechando toda conducta impura y el exceso de maldad, reciban con humildad la palabra que ha sido plantada en ustedes y que tiene poder para salvar sus almas.21 For this reason, putting away all dirty behaviour and the overweight of evil, take into your souls without pride the word which, being planted there, is able to give you salvation.
Pero pongan por obra la palabra, y no sean solamente oidores que se engañan a sí mismos.22 But be doers of the word, and not only hearers of it, blinding yourselves with false ideas.
Porque si alguno es solo oyente de la palabra y no hacedor, es como un hombre que se mira su rostro natural en un espejo;23 Because if any man is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a glass;
Pues después de mirarse a sí mismo, se va y enseguida se olvida de cómo era.24 For after looking at himself he goes away, and in a short time he has no memory of what he was like.
Pero el que sigue atentamente la ley perfecta que da libertad, y persevera en ella, no siendo oidor olvidadizo sino hacedor de la obra, éste será bienaventurado en lo que hace.25 But he who goes on looking into the true law which makes him free, being not a hearer without memory but a doer putting it into effect, this man will have a blessing on his acts.
Si alguien se cree religioso pero no controla su lengua, sino que se engaña a sí mismo, su religión no sirve de nada.26 If a man seems to have religion and has no control over his tongue but lets himself be tricked by what is false, this man's religion is of no value.
La religión pura y sin mancha delante de nuestro Dios y Padre es ésta: cuidar de los huérfanos y de las viudas en sus aflicciones, y mantenerse limpio de la contaminación del mundo.27 The religion which is holy and free from evil in the eyes of our God and Father is this: to take care of children who have no fathers and of widows who are in trouble, and to keep oneself untouched by the world.
