Captive No More

In the land of the gadarenes, cut by the wind
Lived a man in the dark where the shadows had sinned
No chains could hold him, no shackles could bind
With the tombs for his home and a tormented mind

Day and night in the mountains, he'd scream and he'd cry
Cutting his flesh as the world passed him by
But across the blue water, a boat touched the sand
And the demons inside knew their judge was at hand

What have I to do with you, son of the most high?
The voices screamed out to the stormy blue sky
But with just a command, the dark legion would flee
And the captive was chained to his madness no more, set free

Jesus asked him his name as he fell to his knees
We are legion, they cried, do not send us away, please!
So he cast them all out to a herd on the hill
Two thousand rushed down to the deep lake so still

The herdsmen all ran to the town with the news
With fear in their hearts of the power he'd use
And the people came out and they gasped at the sight
The wild man was clothed, in his mind, in the light

What have I to do with you, son of the most high?

He sat at the feet of the teacher of grace
No longer a monster, a smile on his face
He begged to go with him, to sail on the deep
But Jesus said, no, there's a promise to keep
Go home to your people, go tell them today

How the mercy of God washed your demons away.
So he walked through decapolis, telling his story
Of the man from the tombs who was restored to his glory
From the chains of the grave to the light of the Sun
The captive was freed by the holy one
