it was a mile away from the shore,era lontano dalla riva un miglio,
it saw the harbor but couldn’t dock anymore.vedeva il porto e non poteva più approdar.

Yet it had all the gear in place,Eppure a posto avea tutti gli attrezzi
including the keel and the helm,compreso chiglia ed il timon,
but try as they might, they couldn’t find a wayma dagli e pesta non trovavan mezzi
to get that damn hunk of junk to move.per far marciare quel balordo carcasson.

And after one, two, three,E dopo una, due, tre,
four, five, six, seven weeks,quattro, cinque, sei, sette settimane,
nobody could figure out whynessun riusci a capir perchè
without a second thought, it set sail again.senza più esitar si rimise a navigar.

The white sails, the flags and the riggingLe bianche vele, fiocchi e pappafichi
quickly got the sailors moving,sciolsero tosto i marinar
and the captain with his old mustachee il capitano dai mustacchi antichi
went up on deck to take command of his ship.salì sul ponte, la sua nave a comandar.

this legend of the sea,questa leggenda del mar,
everyone listens in silence,tutti in silenzio stanno ad ascoltar
not even a whisper to be heard.senza nemmeno fiatar.

Trembling, shining bright,Tremando, brilla lucente
the eye searches down there,l'occhio cercando laggiù,
where in the void the blue sea fades away,dove nel nulla si perde il mar blu,
a dream that won’t return again.un sogno che non torna più.
