A few notes just a few notesEin paar Töne nur ein paar Töne
That you carelessly humDie du achtlos summst
Which then arise in you from longingDie aus Sehnsucht dann in dir entsteh'n
Are they wild and loudSind sie wild und laut
Or are they gentle and quietOder sind sie zart und leise
How a song is createdSo entsteht ein Lied
Almost nothing and yet so muchBeinah' nichts und doch so viel

And then you sing themUnd dann singst du sie
A few words and a few soundsEin paar Worte und ein paar Töne
And it gives you comfortUnd es gibt dir Trost
And then the others will listen to youUnd dann hören dir die Ander’n zu
You don't sing the truthDie Wahrheit singst du nicht
But it is probably not a lie eitherDoch es ist wohl auch nicht Lüge
