When Mom came here, young and beautiful
כשאמא באה הנה יפה וצעירה
kshe ima ba'a hena yafe ve tze'ira
Dad built her a house on a hill
אז אבא על גבעה בנה לה בית
az aba al giva'a bana la bayit
The springs passed, half a century went by
חלפו האביבים, חצי מאה עברה
chalfu ha'avivim, chatzi mea avra
And curls turned to gray in the meantime
ותלתלים הפכו שיבה בינתיים
ve tal'talim hafchu shiva b'in'taim

But on the banks of the Jordan, nothing changed
אבל על חוף ירדן כמו מאומה לא קרה
aval al hof yarden kmo me'uma lo kara
The same silence and the same scenery
אותה הדומיה וגם אותה התפאורה
ota ha'dumia vegam ota ha'te'forah
Eucalyptus grove, the bridge, the boat
חורשת האקליפטוס, הגשר, הסירה
chorashet ha'eucalyptus, ha'gesher, ha'sirah
And the salty smell on the water
וריח המלוח על המים
ve re'ach ha'maluach al ha'mayim

Across the Jordan, the cannons roared
מעבר לירדן רעמו התותחים
me'ever le'yarden ra'amu ha'totachim
And peace returned at the end of summer
והשלום חזר בסוף הקיץ
ve ha'shalom chazar basof ha'kayitz
All the babies grew up to be adults
וכל התינוקות הפכו לאנשים
vechol ha'tinokot hafchu le'anashim
And again on the hill, they built a house
ושוב על הגבעה הקימו בית
veshuv al ha'giva'a he'kimu bayit
