Sam:
Daddy settled down near some hillbilly town God know where,
Tennessee Building himself a church out of clapboard
And birch and my brother and me
Every single day we would kneel in the dirt for him
Every single day or he'd hit till we hurt for him
Right until the day the good Lord gave him cancer, Amen.

Daddy didn't need no damn pills, he decreed, If our faith would be strong.
And so everyday spitting blood he would say,

Till the day he crawled to the grave that we dug him and died.
That's the first time I cried.
But my brother he said as he sat on the bend by my side,

I'm sorry, but it's no excuse.

Sam:
I know, but I see you when you think your boy is threatened.

Sam:
