In a corner of Enbizaka, there's a young mistress of a tailor
えんびざかのかたすみにあるしたてやのわかきおんなしゅじん
Enbi zaka no katasumi ni aru shitate ya no wakaki onna shujin
With the skill and certainty of her hands, she's the talk of the neighborhood
きだてのよさとたしかなうでできんじょでもひょうばんのむすめ
Kidate no yosa to tashika na ude de kinjo demo hyōban no musume

Her worries are all about the infidelity of the one she loves
そんなかのじょのなやみごとはあいするあのひとのうわきしょう
Sonna kanojo no nayami goto wa aisuru ano hito no uwaki shō
Saying, 'I won't go back home while that person exists'
"わたしというものがありながらいえにかえってきやしない\"
"Watashi to iu mono ga ari nagara ie ni kaette kiya shinai"

きょうもまちはいつものとおりあおだやかでへいわなにちじょう
Kyō mo machi wa itsumo no tōri ah odayaka de heiwa na nichijō
While dancing, she spotted that person, who is the woman next to him?
おどりであのひとをみかけたとなりのおんなはいったいだれ

Her red kimono suits her well, a beautiful woman with a sullen air
あかいきものがよくにあううつくしいおんなとなかむつまじく

あるくそのすがたこらえきれずそのばしょをすぐはなれたの

Dabbing her cheeks with tears, she puts her life into mending clothes
ほほをなみだでぬらしながらきもののぬいなおしにせいをだす
Hoho o namida de nurashi nagara kimono no nui naoshi ni sei o dasu

The town seems somehow restless, like something eerie is happening
まちはなにやらふおんなくうきなにかじけんがおこったらしい
Machi wa nani yara fuon na kū ki nani ka jiken ga okotta rashī
In front of the bridge, she spotted that person, who is the woman next to him?
はしのまえであのひとをみかけたとなりのおんなはいったいだれ
Hashi no mae de ano hito o mikaketa tonari no onna wa ittai dare?

Compared to that woman who seems to have fallen from grace, she's a beautiful woman
おちこんだようすのあのひとによりそうかみのきれいなおんな
