The camel of the journey
つきのさばくをはるばると
Tsuki no sabaku wo harubaru to
Traveled far to the desert moon
たびのらくだがゆきました
Tabi no rakuda ga yukimashita

In the golden and silver houses
きんとぎんとのくらおいて
Kin to gin to no kura oite
Two lined up and went
ふたつならんでゆきました
Futatsu narande yukimashita

In the golden house, a golden turtle
きんのくらにはきんのかめ
Kin no kura ni wa kin no kame
In the silver house, a golden turtle
ぎんのくらにはきんのかめ
Gin no kura ni wa kin no kame

The two turtles were each
ふたつのかめはそれぞれに
Futatsu no kame wa sorezore ni
Tied with a string
ひもでむすんでありました
Himo de musunde arimashita

In the front house, a prince
さきのくらにはおうじさま
Saki no kura ni wa oujisama
In the back house, a princess
あとのくらにはおひめさま
Ato no kura ni wa ohimesama

The two who rode
のったふたりはおそろいの
Notta futari wa osoroi no
Wore matching white robes
しろいうわぎをきてました
Shiroi uwagi wo kite mashita

Across the vast desert
ひろいさばくをひとすじに
Hiroi sabaku wo hitosuji ni
Where will the two go?
ふたりはどこへゆくのでしょう
Futari wa doko he yuku no deshou

おぼろにけぶるつきのよを
Oboro ni keburu tsuki no yo wo
Slowly trudged under the hazy moon
ついのらくだはとぼとぼと
Tsui no rakuda wa tobotobo to

They passed the last hill
さきゅうをこえてゆきました
Sakyuu wo koete yukimashita
Silently they passed
だまってこえてゆきました
Damatte koete yukimashita
