A little boy was playingUm garotinho brincava
In front of the houseNa frente da moradia
While his dad was coming backEnquanto seu pai voltava
From the errands he had doneDos haveres que fazia
He gently leanedEncostava com carinho
A brand new carUm automóvel zerinho
That he bought that dayQue comprou naquele dia

Pure, with the innocencePuro, com a inocência
Of a child, it doesn't leaveDe uma criança não sai
This child fellEssa criança caiu
Like any other child fallsComo qualquer outra cai
Fragile in reasoningFrágil de raciocínio
With a piece of aluminumCom pedaço de alumínio
Scratched his dad's carRiscou o carro do pai

And kept on scratchingE continuou riscando
Getting the car all muddySujando o carro de barro
When his dad saw thatQuando seu pai viu aquilo
He yelled out, really pissedGritou bastante enrraivado
And in a vengeful gestureE com gesto de vingança
He grabbed the child's hand andPegou a mão da criança e
Hit the car hardBateu com força no carro

He hurt the child's handFeriu a mão da criança
With a brutal smackCom uma pancada brutal
And from that injuryE daquele ferimento
He got a nasty tetanusDeu um tétano grande mal
It was the poor boyFoi o menino coitado
Taken by the same dadPelo mesmo pai levado
In a rush to the hospitalAs pressas pra o hospital

Arriving at the hospitalChegando no hospital
There was no other wayNão existiu outro jeito
They amputated the boyAmputaram garoto
His right little armO seu bracinho direito
The dad without saying sorryO pai sem pedir desculpa
Feeling the weight of guiltSentindo o peso da culpa
Boiling inside his chestFervendo dentro do peito

They returned from the hospitalVoltaram do hospital
Mourning with every stepLamentando a cada passo
The mom feeling sadnessA mãe sentindo tristeza
And the son missing an armE o filho faltando um braço
The dad in the calm's aftermathO pai na sobra da calma
Burned the cloak of his soulQueimava o manto da alma
In the fire of failureNa fogueira do fracasso

At home he lost his wayEm casa perdeu o rumo
In everything he didDe tudo quando fazia
He no longer looked at the carNão olhava mais pra o carro
He neither ate nor drankNão comia e nem bebia
Leaning over a tableDebruçado numa mesa
Hearing the voice of sadnessOuvindo a voz da tristeza
Moaning in the houseGemendo na moradia

One day he was cryingUm dia estava chorando
Without peace or restSem ter sossego nem paz
His son came to wipeVeio seu filho enxugar
His sentimental tearsSeus prantos sentimentais
And said, "Daddy dearE disse assim papaizinho
When I grow up, my little armQuando crescer meu bracinho
I won't scratch your car anymore."Seu carro eu não risco mais

When he heard that phraseQuando ouviu essa frase
He couldn't take it anymoreNão pode mais suportar
He prepared for suicidePreparou o suicídio
And said: "I'm doneE disse: Eu vou me acabar
