Before I sailed the ocean
Before I earned these scars
My mother grabbed my hand and said

Son the sea don't care who you are
The waves will break the strongest man
Before he ever sees the stars

My viking mother told me
Don't chase gold, chase your name
Because when your bones turn into dust
That's the only thing that remains

She said one day you'll leave this shore
And I won't see you for years
One day you'll learn a warrior's strenght
Ain't measured by his spear
It's measured by the promises he keeps
When no one's around
By how he treats the weak and how he stands his ground
Back then I just wanted glory a ship, a sword, a crown
Now I know exactly what she meant

The older I become
And every storm I survived
Started with her words
