I remember everything
how I went too far
how I lost my way
out on Bardstown Road

how I drove around in circles
til the morning slipped away
then headed back to Louisville
and kissed Gethsemani goodbye

all you really wanted
was to go see Merton's shed
to stroll around the garden
to pray beside his grave

but I refused to ask directions
just kept on driving like a fool
and when the interstate appeared

how I missed that turn
