Fishing is not about fishing
It's just a way to hang out with your kids
Going down to the dam at the rental
Threading the line
Mostly, we were quiet, we only saw him once a month
We never ate the fish we caught, it was more about love
For a girl and a son, and a girl

I will never forget the shit on the deck
And you on your camp chair alone
No sign of your phone
Always distracted, missing the point
Now, here you sit, ball on the joint
And for once, you did not disappoint
Businessman and his kids going fishing

Fly the bait, hook the trout
Now we wait, no one shouts
Hold it here, make a loop is how he said I love you
Ah, ah

One time while we waited, we found a frog the width of paper
And we put him in a matchbox, thought we'd found a friend
Damp and dark affection, some kind of cruel suffocation
We just kept pretending, didn't want the day to end

Fly the bait, hook the trout
Now we wait, no one shouts
Hold it here, make a loop is how he said–
Fly the bait, hook the trout
Now we wait, no one shouts
Hold my hand on the sinker
Fishing is not about fishing

Ah, ah
Ah, ah
Ah, ah
Ah
