In the silent night, in the garden, he praysNocte silente, in horto orat
His sweat like drops of bloodSudor eius sicut guttæ sanguinis
And Judas comes with a kissEt venit Iudas cum osculo
He betrays the Son of God to his enemiesFilium Dei tradidit inimicis

He is bound like a thiefAlligatus est sicut latro
He is led to unjust judgesDuctus est ad iudices iniustos
He is spat on, mockedSpuitur in faciem, iridetur
And adorned with a crown of thornsEt corona spinis ornatur

Behold the Man! The King of humility!Ecce Homo! Rex humilitatis!
Beaten with scourges, stripped of his garmentsFlagellis caesus, vestibus spoliatus
Carrying the cross, he ascends CalvaryFerens crucem in Calvarium ascendit
Silent, like a lamb led to the slaughterSilens, ut agnus ducitur ad occisionem

His hands are pierced with nailsManus eius clavis perforatae sunt
His feet are nailed to the treePedes eius ligno affixi sunt
He hangs on the cross among the thievesInter latrones pendet in cruce
And the people mock himEt populus deridet eum

He was thirsty, but they gave him vinegarSitivit, sed acetum dederunt ei
And bowing his head, he gave up the ghostEt inclinato capite, emisit spiritum

The earth is covered in darknessTegitur terra in caligine
The temple is split, the earth tremblesTemplum scinditur, terra tremit
The cross has become the throne of the eternal KingCrux facta est thronus regis aeterni
And through his wounds salvation has come to the worldEt per vulnera eius salus venit mundo

He was laid in the tombIn sepulcro positus est
But the light did not overcome the darknessSed lux non superavit tenebras
We await his resurrectionExpectamus resurrectionem eius
The glorious and living LordDominum gloriosum et vivum
