Shared Hearts

A widow had two daughters
Two cheerful children
She named them after rose-trees
which stood in her garden

Snow White was quiet and gentle
She looked after their home
Rose Red was wild and bright-eyed
Where cold winds blew she’d roam
and they would say:

“We will not leave each other”
“Never so long as we live”
“For you, my life I would give”
And hence spoke the mother:
“What one has
she must share with the other”

“Oh sister, my sister,
your heart beats in my chest”
“If you are in peril,
I can’t come to rest”

“Oh sister, my sister,
your blood flows through my veins”
“We share our joys and
our sorrows, our pains”

“Blood is thicker than water
Thus, we are as thick as thieves
and we’ll be there for each other
until we need to leave
this world”

Their souls entwined forever
as sisters – come what may

And even though the children
were alike as day and night,
like black and white,
their inner bonds were stronger
and differently the same,
they would unite
