What you really are, it seems you won't show
Should you be loved or hated, I don't rightly know
At summer's end, I can feel you near
Or so it seems, closer every year
And on and on and on and on we go
And what comes next I don't rightly know
School days, war days, wipe the world away
One day loves sun, warms the world to stay
We scream, we shout, play odd man out - dismayed
We see - we saw, grow up, grow bored - decay
And on and on and on and on we go

Should I believe, or be grown-up and doubt?
Sing a hymn, or should I just shout?
Have a knowing smile or sneer and pout?
We enter screaming and often that's how we go out
