Tropical Anguish

Deep in the sacred maze
She treads where moss can hide
Roots that twist and guard
Past lands her tribe denied
Macaws cry overhead
Bright wings in fevered dance
The ground a field of blooms
The air a slow romance
Jaguar eyes in the shade
Observes her silent grief
The earth absorbs her tears
The leaves grant no relief
She walks through vines of gold
That bind yet set her free
The orchids lean to hear
Her whispered elegy!

The jungle grieves with her
Its soil upholds her will
The stones recall her steps
The wind repeats her ills
The waterfall confides
Its mist wraps 'round her face
The bromels bow their heads
And cloak her hidden place
The beasts observes her
Despair they've never known
The night consumes her
Its breath becomes her own
The stars deny her
Their light has never shone
The skies reject her
Their mercy overthrown
The serpent coils in dark
Its tongue divides the air
Its body weaves through grass
A presence cold and rare
The branches mask the sky
Her sorrow lingers there
The smoke ascends to night
