I took a train from San Diego to Los Angeles
I saw a girl sat all alone and started panicking
I told her she looked like someone I used to date before
She said: Is that a pickup line? And shifted her eyes toward the door
I said: No, that's not what I meant, I just miss her is all
She said: That's still a weird thing to say to a stranger, no?
I said: Yeah
She smiled and said: Yeah
I smiled and said: Yeah
Then she asked me to sit down which took me by surprise
She started asking 'bout the girl and how they look alike
I said: Your hair, your clothes, your lips and nose, and God, those pretty eyes
She said: Oh, so you think I have pretty eyes?
I said: Yeah
I smiled and said: Yeah
She smiled and said

I'm never gonna be the love of your life
If that's what you think you better think twice
So I said: How 'bout maybe just one night
She said: Fine

But don't mind me if I'm having a good time
I'm not afraid of the goodbye
And you don't have to agree, but when I get up and leave
Don't look so surprised

We watched a movie in her hostel while she smoked a cigarette
I made a comment about the smell, she said: Get over it
And for a second I considered getting up and going home
But instead I had a smoke

And said: I'm never gonna be the love of your life
If that's what you think you better think twice
And she said: How 'bout maybe just tonight
I said: Fine

But don't mind me if I'm having a good time
I'm not afraid of the goodbye
And you don't have to agree, but when I get up and leave
Don't look so surprised

Don't look so surprised
I said: Yeah
She smiled and said: Yeah
I smiled and said: Yeah
She smiled and said: Yeah

I said: I'm never gonna be the love of your life
If that's what you think you better think twice
And she said: How 'bout maybe just tonight
I said: Fine

But don't mind me if I'm having a good time
I'm not afraid of the goodbye
And when I put down the keys when you thought I would leave
Don't look so surprised
When you're having a good time
Doesn't have to be goodbye
And you don't have to agree, but when you get up and leave
And find you're missing a piece you thought that you didn't need
Don't look so surprised
