Daylight wasted as it must be

The cage beckons like an empty friend
Sleep terror then it starts again
It gives nothing ‘cause it only lends

Can’t we just get this over with?

Teeth sink into the hand that feeds
With fear at my side, I’m beating the system to death

Instinct calls me. I ignore it
As the clock ticks, thoughts turn violent

A pale shadow of a dream untrue
Some still believe it, but they’re dreaming too
The horses run until they’re turned to glue
I know precisely what I need to do
