A Test Of Wills

We play such nonsensical games you and I,
We gamble with words yet our actions will justify
The ineffable cold of the end
And its tangible silence
But at least we can still pretend.

We act in this tedious play, yet we claim
That we lowered our masks, still our faces remain the same,
And we hold to these feelings of old
As we struggle with shadows
When our shadows are truths untold.

Dance with me, bleed with me
Gaze with me through the face of the void,
Things we loved, gods we praised
Trails we blazed, and the lives we destroyed.
It is all just a test of our wills, do we dare
To aknowledge that time, will erase all the things we were?
As we welcome the cold of the end
In appropriate silence
Wishing that we could still pretend.
