Exultet, Praeconium Paschale (latim)

V/ Sursum corda

in quibus verus ille Agnus occíditur
cuius sánguine postes fidélium consecrántur

Hæc nox est
in qua primum patres nostros, fílios Israel
edúctos de Ægypto
Mare Rubrum sicco vestígio transíre fecísti

Hæc ígitur nox est
quæ peccatórum ténebras colúmnæ illuminatióne purgávit

Hæc nox est
quæ hódie per univérsum mundum in Christo credéntes
a vítiis sæculi et calígine peccatórum segregátos
reddit grátiæ, sóciat sanctitáti

Hæc nox est
in qua, destrúctis vínculis mortis
Christus ab ínferis victor ascéndit

Nihil enim nobis nasci prófuit
nisi rédimi profuísset
O mira circa nos tuæ pietátis dignátio!
O inæstimábilis diléctio caritátis
ut servum redímeres, Fílium tradidísti!

O certe necessárium Adæ peccátum
quod Christi morte delétum est!
O felix culpa
quæ talem ac tantum méruit habére Redemptórem!

O vere beáta nox
quæ sola méruit scire tempus et horam
in qua Christus ab ínferis resurréxit!

Hæc nox est, de qua scriptum est
Et nox sicut dies illuminábitur
et nox illuminátio mea in delíciis meis

Huius ígitur sanctificátio noctis fugat scélera, culpas lavat
et reddit innocéntiam lapsis
et mæstis lætítiam
Fugat ódia, concórdiam parat
et curvat impéria

O vere beáta nox
in qua terrénis cæléstia, humánis divína iungúntur!¹

In huius ígitur noctis grátia, súscipe, sancte Pater
laudis huius sacrifícium vespertínum
quod tibi in hac cérei oblatióne solémni
per ministrórum manus
de opéribus apum, sacrosáncta reddit Ecclésia

Sed iam colúmnæ huius præcónia nóvimus
quam in honórem Dei rútilans ignis accéndit
Qui, lícet sit divísus in partes
mutuáti tamen lúminis detrimenta non novit

Alitur enim liquántibus ceris
quas in substántiam pretiósæ huius lámpadis

R/ Amen

Exultet, Paschal Proclamation (Latin)

Let now the angelic host of heaven exult
Let divine mysteries exult
And let the trumpet of salvation sound for the victory of such a great King

Let the earth also rejoice, illuminated by such great lightning
And illuminated by the splendor of the eternal King
Let the whole world feel that it has lost its darkness

Let the mother Church also rejoice
Adorned with the brilliance of such great light
And let this hall resound with the loud voices of the people

Therefore, standing here, beloved brothers
Before the amazing brightness of this holy light
Together with me, I ask
Invoke the mercy of Almighty God
So that He, who deigned to include me
Among the Levites, not by my merits
Pouring forth the brightness of His light
May perfect the praise of this candle

V/ The Lord be with you
R/ And with your spirit
V/ Lift up your hearts
R/ We have them lifted up to the Lord
V/ Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
R/ It is right and just

Truly right and just
To proclaim with all our heart and mind
And with the ministry of our voices
The invisible God, the Father Almighty
And His only begotten Son
Our Lord Jesus Christ

Who paid the debt of Adam to the eternal Father for us
And wiped away the debt of the ancient offense with His holy blood

For this is the Paschal feast
In which the true Lamb is slain
Whose blood consecrates the doorposts of the faithful

This is the night
When you led our fathers, the sons of Israel
Out of Egypt
And made them pass through the Red Sea on dry land

This, therefore, is the night
That purged away the darkness of sin
With the pillar of light

This is the night
That today, throughout the world, for those who believe in Christ
Separated from the vices of the world and the darkness of sin
Joins to grace, associates with holiness

This is the night
In which, the chains of death being destroyed
Christ rose victorious from the underworld

For it would have profited us nothing to be born
If it had not profited us to be redeemed
O the wondrous condescension of Your mercy towards us!
O the inestimable love of charity
That You might redeem a servant, You handed over Your Son!

O truly necessary sin of Adam
Which was blotted out by the death of Christ!
O happy fault
That merited such and so great a Redeemer!

O truly blessed night
Which alone deserved to know the time and hour
In which Christ rose from the underworld!

This is the night, of which it is written
And the night shall be as bright as day
And the night is my illumination in my delights

Therefore, the sanctification of this night dispels wickedness, washes away sins
And restores innocence to the fallen
And joy to the sorrowful
It banishes hatred, produces concord
And humbles empires

O truly blessed night
In which earthly things are joined with heavenly, and the divine with the human!

Therefore, in this night's grace, receive, Holy Father
This evening sacrifice of praise
Which the holy Church renders to You solemnly
Through the hands of Your ministers
From the works of bees, this sacred offering

But now we know the praises of this pillar
Which the shining fire kindles to the honor of God
Who, though divided into parts
Yet knows no loss of light from the exchange

For it is fed by melting wax
Which the mother bee brought forth
For the substance of this precious lamp

Therefore, we beseech You, Lord
That this candle, consecrated to the honor of Your name
May persevere undimmed
To destroy the darkness of this night
And being accepted as a sweet fragrance
May be mingled with the lights above

May the morning star find its flame burning
That star, I say, which knows no setting
Your Son, Christ
Who, returning from the underworld, has shone serene upon humankind
And lives and reigns for ever and ever

R/ Amen
