The virtue of men is obedience
They follow the words carved into stone
They call it truth because they fear the unknown
They raise their hands toward the heavens
And ask for forgiveness for sins they never understood

The virtue of men is ambition
They build their kingdoms upon the bones of others
They name their violence a glorious victory
And write their names in history
As if history could forgive them

In the silence, we listen for an answer
In the darkness, we invent a light
We are children of forgotten questions
Building gods from our fears
And calling existence a reason to survive

The virtue of men is desire
They possess the earth but never possess enough
They turn gold into power
And power into hunger

They poison rivers in the name of progress
They cut the trees and count the profit
They divide the world between the chosen and the forgotten
And call the suffering of others
The price of civilization

In the silence, we listen for an answer
In the darkness, we invent a light
We are children of forgotten questions
Building gods from our fears
And calling existence a reason to survive

The virtue of men is faith

When the earth trembles beneath their feet
They will look toward the heavens
When the heavens become silent
They will finally look within themselves

And perhaps they will understand
The gods were never watching
We were

In the darkness, we search for the light of reason
In desperation, we search for peace
We are made of illusions
Searching for a purpose to compensate
For our failures and our existence

In the darkness, we search for the light of reason
While the stars disappear above us
We are made of illusions
Searching for a meaning we created ourselves
Before the night takes everything away
