I Want To Believe
Luis H. Rocha
I long to trust what others claim
With open hands I reach somehow
For love and faith so loudly told
Yet only emptiness is shown
A silent void that walks alone
And like the mist that fades away
Amid the morning's pallid light
I search for what binds all who pray
And fear the verdict: Vain, and slight
I've crawled through chapels, crossed cathedrals wide
With borrowed stars to light the way
Too much, my friend, you know that tide
Yet never touched what makes them stay
I've stood in cries of mad despair
And begged the change I could not name
Each prayer disguised another lie
An ocean drowned in madness' flame
And when I count these failures through
I trust that trust is not the key
The days walk on beneath my shoe
I mark them on the calendar
And live as does the fading light
Before a murder, dull and slight
I wander on, not knowing still
What, or if, I'll ever find
It's just a way to face the chill
Or numb the ache that stays behind
I wander on, not knowing still
What, or if, I'll ever find
It's just a way to face the chill
Or numb the ache that stays behind
