Tell Him I Made It

There's a kid in a photograph I hardly know
Beat-up jacket, twenty years ago
He had nothing in his pockets, nothing to his name
But he never once believed he'd stay the same

If he could see me standing here somehow
I'd tell him every hour of it was worth it now

Somebody tell him I made it
Somebody tell him I'm fine
Tell him the worst of it ends
Tell him he crosses that line
So tell him to hold on a while
Tell him it's worth every mile
Somebody tell him I made it

I've got the years he never thought he'd see
I've got every single thing he swore he'd be
But I never turned around to say his name
Or tell him that the fire he lit still burns the same

If he could hear me calling down the line
I'd tell him that he got it right the first time

Somebody tell him I made it
Somebody tell him I'm fine
Tell him the worst of it ends
Tell him he crosses that line
So tell him to hold on a while
Tell him it's worth every mile
Somebody tell him I made it

If I could send a message back through all these years
Past the doubt, past the fear
I'd say keep going, kid, you don't know it yet
But you're already him
You're already him

Somebody tell him I made it
Somebody tell him it's fine
He got through the worst of it
He already crossed that line
And tell him he held on a while
And it was worth every mile
Somebody tell him I made it

Tell him I made it
Tell him I made it (he's already him)
Tell him I made it
