The smoke rises like a prayer
This is the debris the axe left behind
In the vacuum of the cooling wind
Only when the pain strikes more than once
Do we cut what wasn't ours to cut
We call a scar progress
The earth bleeds and won't stop bleeding

You and I own nothing
What came from fate
Which is a higher power
That the market regulates
That the technician corrects
But every flood that inundates
Every pain
Is the reflection of a mirror
That no one embraces

There is no nature out there
You are nature and part of it now
Every burned tree burns within you
Every dead river is a pot that won't grow

The earth isn't green
We destroyed it
The earth has no borders
It's what we've sold
The green and blue were all we ignored
And the hell we reap
We planted

The flood didn't come out of nowhere
It came from us
From the concrete that suffocates where life should sprout
Nature isn't the victim
It's us
Who chose to destroy instead of inhabiting

It wasn't the climate that changed
It was what we chose to be
The wind isn't to blame
The wind only obeys
Everything that exists is one and the same
And we've burned a part of ourselves
There's no escape in technology
There's no escape in rhetoric
We are the problem
